E-Visits at Rush FAQs

E-Visits at Rush are an easy way to connect to a health care provider online when you need care for common conditions. With an E-Visit, you’ll receive an online diagnosis and treatment plan from a Rush provider. If you need prescriptions, they’ll be sent directly to your pharmacy.

How E-Visits work:

  1. Log in to MyChart or register for a MyChart account if you don’t have one already.

  2. Submit a secure online questionnaire about your condition and medical history.

  3. Within one hour of your virtual visit, you'll receive a MyChart message with your online diagnosis and a treatment plan created by a Rush provider.

Please note: if you make your request for an online physician visit after our hours of operation, you’ll receive a response the next business day.

E-Visits at Rush are available to patients 18 years and older, even if they've never been to Rush before.

For more information about how your online doctor visit will work, take a look at the information below, covering frequently asked questions about E-Visits at Rush.

Who can use E-Visits at Rush?

E-Visits at Rush are open to anyone 18 and older, even if they’ve never been to Rush. You must have a MyChart account to complete a virtual visit but you can register for a MyChart account at any time.

How much does an E-Visit cost?

E-Visits cost $30. You may pay with a credit or debit card, or with a health savings account. Rush does not bill insurance for online doctor visits.

How do I request an E-Visit?

To request an E-Visit, log in to MyChart. Once you’ve logged into MyChart, begin an E-Visit by selecting “Start an E-Visit” under Quick Links. You can create a MyChart account if you don't have one.

When are E-Visits available?

E-Visits at Rush are available from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends. If you complete an E-Visit questionnaire outside these hours or on certain holidays, you will receive a response within an hour after E-Visit services at Rush begin again.

Virtual visits are not for emergencies. If you have an urgent medical need, call 911 — or visit your nearest emergency department or urgent care facility.

Who reviews my E-Visit questionnaire and creates my treatment plan?

All questionnaires are reviewed by Rush providers — doctors or advanced practice providers. The name of the provider who reviews your E-Visit will be listed on your online diagnosis and treatment plan.

Will I be treated by my regular primary care provider?

You’ll be treated by the Rush provider who is available at the moment you need care. Your regular primary care provider will have access to your diagnosis and treatment plan in your medical record.

What happens if I can’t receive treatment through an E-Visit?

Depending on how you respond to certain questions about your condition, you may be advised to seek in-person care. Additionally, if you complete and submit your E-Visit but your provider deems your condition inappropriate for a virtual visit, they’ll let you know via a MyChart message and you’ll receive a call within two business days to assist you in setting up an appointment.

Will I be charged if I can’t complete care through an E-Visit?

No. You’ll only be charged for your online physician visit if you receive an online diagnosis and treatment plan.

Can I get a prescription through E-Visits at Rush?

Yes. Your provider can prescribe medications if you need them and send the online prescriptions directly to the pharmacy of your choice.

Do I need to use a camera or video?

You never need to use video for E-Visits, but we may need to see a picture to help us understand what’s going on for some conditions. When requested, you can upload pictures from your mobile device or computer.

What Internet browser should I use?

MyChart works best with these internet browsers: Internet Explorer 11, Edge, Mozilla Firefox 33 and above, Safari 6 and above or Google Chrome 33 and above.

What is your privacy policy?

E-Visits are available through MyChart. MyChart is owned and operated by Epic Systems Corporations and is fully compliant with federal and state laws pertaining to your privacy. Your name and email address will be treated with the same care and privacy given to your health records, and will never be sold or leased.

Can I share my account with my spouse?

No. To ensure your privacy and safety, each person must have a separate MyChart account for all purposes, including online doctor visits.

Are E-Visits secure?

We take great care to ensure your health information is kept private and secure. Access to information is controlled through secure activation codes, personal usernames and passwords. You control your own password, and your account cannot be accessed without that password. Further, MyChart uses the latest 128-bit SSL encryption technology with no caching to automatically encrypt your session with MyChart. Unlike conventional email, all MyChart messaging is done while you are securely logged on.
