When you are admitted as an inpatient to one of our Rush hospitals, our experienced hospital medicine specialists, also known as hospitalists, will manage your overall care coordination.
Our hospitalists are board-certified internal medicine physicians who focus solely on providing care to people who are hospitalized. They have extensive experience in both common and complicated cases.
Because they are focused solely on inpatients, your hospitalist will be available throughout your entire inpatient stay to order additional tests, follow-up on test results, answer questions, discuss your care plan with subspecialists, and consult with you and your family about any new treatment or care decisions.
They also collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of specialists — including subspecialists, nurses, case managers, social workers — to ensure you get the best care possible during your time at Rush.
When you’re ready for discharge, your hospitalist will work with you, your primary care provider and any subspecialists involved in your care to develop a smooth transition plan.
