Tatyana Popkova became the Rush University System for Health's first chief strategy officer in March 2019.
In this role, Popkova leads the development and execution of the Rush University System for Health strategic plan, the growth of Rush Health — the second largest clinically integrated network in Illinois — and the development of the consumer-focused national digital engagement platform.
As a member of the health system senior management team, she oversees all major capital projects, business development, mergers and acquisitions, strategic partnerships, marketing, communications and public relations.
Popkova brings a wealth of management and leadership experience to her role at Rush. She has more than 15 years of experience in health care operations and finance, departmental administration, mergers and acquisitions, acute and ambulatory hospital operations, and service line management. Her experience spans both academic medical centers and multi-state, community-based systems.
Before joining the Rush System, she served as the first operations executive for oncology services in the Banner Health system headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. A not-for-profit health system, Banner operates 28 hospitals and specialized facilities in seven states and has total revenues exceeding $8 billion.
Before her time at Banner Health, Popkova was a part of the leadership team at the University of Colorado Hospital and UCHealth — an academic health system comprising 12 hospitals located in Colorado. In this role, she led cross-enterprise strategic growth and business development initiatives in analytics, informatics, quality and safety, program development and facility master planning.
She also spent nine years at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md., serving in various operational leadership roles with a focus on the operations and the growth of surgical services across the institution.
Popkova is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University, with a bachelor's degree in business and management, and the University of Maryland, with a master's degree in management.
