
Matt Walsh is executive vice president and chief operating officer at Rush University System for Health. He leads operations across Rush University Medical Center, Rush Oak Park Hospital, Rush Copley Medical Center, Rush Medical Group, Rush Health and corporate functions including: quality, strategy and communications, human resources, finance, digital and information systems, facilities, community health programs and the Transformation Office.
Walsh leads significant work focused on improving the patient, employee and learner experience at Rush. This includes increasing access to care closer to home and improving organizational efficiency across the system. Some relevant initiatives include partnerships like RUSH MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Gift of Hope Organ Donor Care Center at Rush, as well as the opening of the Rush Specialty Hospital, Rush Lisle and the Rush North and Harlem ambulatory clinics.
A leader committed to Chicago, Walsh is a member of the Chicago Commercial Club, the Chicago Economic Club and serves on the Illinois Hospital Association’s PAC board. At a national level, he is also a member of the American Hospital Association’s EVP/COO Committee and the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Walsh previously served as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Geisinger in Pennsylvania. Prior to that, he spent nearly 20 years with the Henry Ford Health System in Michigan in multiple leadership roles.
Walsh earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and his Master of Health Administration degree from the University of Phoenix. He is recognized as one of Becker’s Hospital Review COOs to Know in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
