Deana Sievert joined Rush in November 2025 as senior vice president and chief nursing officer. She oversees systemwide nursing strategy, workforce development and the standardization of care models, policies and procedures.
Sievert has more than 30 years of health care experience and more than 15 years in senior leadership roles. Most recently, she served as chief nursing officer at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, leading nursing operations for University Hospital, Ross Heart Hospital, the Brain and Spine Hospital and Dodd Rehabilitation Hospital. Her achievements there include designing a new nursing structure that streamlined decision-making by pulling the decision making closer to the bedside, reestablishing operational leadership roles for the CNO, and co-leading a recruitment and retention initiative that resulted in a net gain of more than 100 nurses while significantly reducing RN turnover within the first 12 months. She also helped forge a formal academic partnership with the College of Nursing, strengthening the pipeline of future nurse leaders.
Earlier in her career, Sievert held senior positions at ProMedica Health System, including president of Fremont Memorial and Fostoria Community Hospitals and chief nursing officer for the Acute, Ambulatory and Provider Division. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from The Ohio State University and is currently pursuing a PhD in executive nursing leadership. Over her career she is most proud of the fact that she has remained a practicing bedside staff nurse, most recently working as an inpatient hospice nurse, and ensuring that nursing’s voice is heard and valued throughout the organization. She strives for top performance and focuses on just culture accountability.
Sievert is married to her husband, Jeff, has three children, Tyler, Trevor and Hope, two daughters-in-law, Emily and Mikayla, and two grandchildren, Colton and Eleanor. She enjoys attending sporting events, reading and spending time with her family.
