Rush Among U.S. News’ Top Hospitals for Seventh Straight Year

Rush is once again ranked among the nation's premier health care providers.

For the seventh straight year, Rush University Medical Center is on U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals Honor Roll, which recognizes 20 hospitals providing exceptional care across multiple specialties.

In its 2026-2027 report, U.S. News ranked nine Rush specialties among the top 50 in the nation, including six in the top 20.

Among the top 10, Rush University Medical Center was ranked No. 7 in the U.S. for Neurology and Neurosurgery and No. 9 for Orthopedics.

'Unwavering dedication'

Overall, Rush University Medical Center ranked No. 1 among Illinois and Chicago-area hospitals.

Rush University Medical Center specialties ranked among the top 50 for 2026-2027 include Cancer, Cardiology, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Gastroenterology and GI Surgery, Geriatrics, Gynecology, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, and Pulmonology and Lung Surgery.

Focus on quality, safety, patient experience

U.S. News ranks hospitals based on a variety of factors, including clinical outcomes, surveys of specialists, nurse staffing levels, technology, and feedback from patients.

It evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals, and only 178 of those hospitals earned at least one top 50 rating.

"This recognition shows that everyone at Rush keeps quality, safety and the patient experience as their primary focus, and it is a credit to our amazing team," said Brian Stein, MD, Rush's vice president and chief quality officer.

The outcome-driven specialties are evaluated on measures that reflect the quality of care a patient receives. The measures include access to advanced technology, the strength of a hospital's nursing program, and the number of patients treated in each specialty, among others.

Rush University Medical Center, Rush Oak Park Hospital and Rush Copley Medical Center also earned "high performing" designations for a total of 30 adult specialties, conditions and procedures.
