‘Pretty in Pink’ Raises Awareness and Funds

A fundraiser in support of breast cancer awareness benefits Waterford Place Cancer Resource Center
Omar Ramos, program development and operations manager at Waterford Place, got a pink strand in his hair to help raise funds for Waterford Place and awareness of breast cancer.

A little pink can go a long way.

A recent event called “Pretty in Pink” raised nearly $300 for Waterford Place Cancer Resource Center. Donors had pink extensions added to their hair for $20 a strand.

The collaboration between RUSH Copley Healthplex and Azza Salon in Oswego raised awareness of breast cancer, with proceeds benefiting Waterford Place, which provides services and support, free of charge, to anyone affected by cancer. In less than three hours, they raised $275.

The event was organized by Laurie Massey, membership sales associate at the Healthplex.  Massey has been donating to breast cancer organizations for years and she gets a pink extension in her hair every year in October. This year, she invited Azza Salon in Oswego to partner with the Healthplex to raise more awareness, with proceeds benefiting Waterford Place.

Now they look forward to making this an annual event at the Healthplex.

“I think this event could be huge,” she says. “I am excited to be part of it.”
