When you have a problem with your lungs — whether it's a lifelong disease or a short-term illness — it can make breathing difficult and potentially lead to other serious health issues.
Pulmonologists at Rush use the latest diagnostic tools and treatments to address the full spectrum of lung diseases. They also see patients with the following problems:
- Sleep apnea and other sleep disorders
- Diseases that affect both the heart and lungs, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
If you or a loved one has a chronic condition, such as mesothelioma or cystic fibrosis, Rush offers tightly coordinated, personalized care to reduce symptoms, improve quality of life and slow disease progression.
Pulmonary rehabilitation
Your pulmonologist may also recommend Pulmonary Rehabilitation as part of your care plan.
Located at Rush Oak Park Hospital, this 10- to 12-week therapeutic outpatient program is designed to help people with chronic lung disease regain strength and endurance — so they are better able to participate in the activities of daily living. It involves exercise, nutrition counseling, education and support services customized for each patient's unique health needs.
