Rush Influenza (Flu) Vaccine Requirement

All Rush personnel (employees, students, contractors and volunteers) are required to receive a flu vaccine every year or to request a medical or religious exemption. The vaccine is free to all Rush personnel. The vaccine is free to all Rush personnel. Rush Copley Medical Center employees can review their policy here.

We require this vaccine to protect our patients, employees and other community members, and to comply with the guidelines of the federal Centers for Disease Control and the Joint Commission.

2025 Dates and Deadlines

The deadline to receive the flu vaccine or request an exemption for all personnel at Rush University Medical Center, Rush Oak Park Hospital, Rush Copley Medical Center, Rush Medical Group and Rush University is Friday, Nov. 14, 2025. Please note that religious exemptions and short-term medical exemptions need to be submitted each year. Exemptions for permanent medical conditions that were submitted last year will be automatically renewed. 

Where to Get Vaccinated

Rush personnel are encouraged to receive the flu shot at a non-Rush location, as appointment availability for flu shots at Rush may be limited. If you receive your flu shot outside of Rush, you must submit your records at rush.edu/vaccinerecord by Friday, Nov. 14. 

It may take up to three business days for your records to be processed. You may receive non-compliance emails during this period. If you still receive notification of non-compliance after three business days, check your open ticket in Service Now in case additional information is required.

Appointments to receive the flu vaccine at Rush must be scheduled in MyChart. Walk-ins are not allowed.

Appointments for flu vaccines are available weekly at the locations below. Appointments can be made at any location that is convenient.

  • Rush University Medical Center – Fourth Floor, Tower, Quiet Area, from Oct. 6 through 31
    • Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    • Thursdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Rush Oak Park Hospital – Employee Health Services (second floor, room 259), from Oct. 6 through 31
    • Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 2 to 3 p.m.
    • Wednesdays, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Rush Copley Medical Center – Yorkville, Alumni I & II and POB II, Suite 301, from Sept. 25 through Nov. 13
    • Yorkville on Thursday, Sept. 25, from 8 to 10:30 a.m.
    • Alumni I & II
      • Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Getting Started with MyChart

If you do not already have a MyChart account, you will need to create one in order to schedule an appointment. Learn more about MyChart and the My Rush app here.

To create a MyChart account for free, visit the MyChart registration page. Choose “Verify Identity with a Third Party" to answer questions and create an account. If you have questions about MyChart, please call the MyChart Helpline at (312) 563-6600.

Using MyChart to Make an Appointment

Once you have downloaded the MyChart app onto your mobile device, please follow these instructions to make an appointment.

  • Navigate to "Schedule an Appointment."
  • Select "Rush Employee Health Vaccinations."
  • Identify your position type, then enter your Rush ID. (Contractors, please enter your company name or the Rush department with which you are contracting.)
  • Select your preferred location: Rush University Medical Center or Rush Oak Park Hospital..
  • Select your preferred appointment date and time.
  • Review your information and schedule your appointment.

Contractors, Students and Volunteers

Contractors, students and volunteers are also welcome to receive the flu shot at Rush. Appointments must be scheduled in MyChart. Choose the correct option (Contractor/Student/Volunteer) while scheduling. Walk-ins are not allowed. 

Exemptions

Employees must submit medical or religious flu vaccination exemption requests and all required attachments at rush.edu/exemption by Friday, Nov. 14. A letter from your provider or religious leader may be required, so please review the forms and reach out to them now to ensure you have the documentation before the deadline. All letters must be current. Letters submitted for prior flu seasons are not accepted.

Special Flu Shots

High-dose and egg-free shots will be available at Rush University Medical Center only; please schedule your shot at Rush University Medical Center if you require the high-dose or egg-free flu vaccines.
