Experience our two luxurious pools with excellent programs and services for the whole family. We offer over 20 fitness classes per week — from high intensity classes such as H2O Combo and Aqua Boot Camp, to Ageless Aqua and Arthritis Plus, there’s a class for anyone looking for an exhilarating workout. Our outstanding Learn to Swim program engages infants as young as 6 months to adults in swim lessons to feel confident and safe around the water, and the program is available for members and nonmembers. Whether you are a beginner or someone who wants to improve your strokes, we have a group class or private lesson for you. Our certified staff, wide variety of classes, and beautiful pools offer a refreshing experience for people of all ages.
Aquatic Programs at Rush Copley Healthplex
Rush Copley Healthplex's Learn to Swim program is designed for child of all ages and allows swimmers to progress at their own pace. Lessons take place in our lap pool or warm therapy pool.
Learn to Swim Levels
- Water Babies (6 months to 2 years): Focus is on water adjustment, safety skills and a great time to bond with your child.
- Parent Tot (2 to 3 ½ years): Children will learn exploration and basic propulsion skills through water play.
- Preschool 1 (3 ½ to 5 years): Students will explore the water and learn to be comfortable in aquatic environments. The basic ideas of floating and airway control will be taught. Prerequisite: Mentally ready to participate without a parent present.
- Preschool 2 (3 ½ to 5 years): Students will perfect their front and back glides and add arm paddles and kicks with the glides. Rolling and treading water will also be introduced. Prerequisite: Submerge completely and blow bubbles, float on back and front with minimal support.
- Preschool 3 (3 ½ to 5 years): Students will coordinate the front and back crawl strokes. They will learn the elementary backstroke and treading water. Safety skills will be reinforced. Prerequisite: Swim independently 15 yards on front and back.
- Youth 1 (6 to 13 years): Students will explore the water and learn to be comfortable in aquatic environments. Front and back floating and airway control will be taught.
- Youth 2 (6 to 13 years): Students will perfect their front and back glides and add arm paddles and kicks with the glides. They will learn to swim 10 yards with rolling for air when needed. Back crawl and treading water will also be introduced. Prerequisite: submerge completely and blow bubbles. Do front and back floats and glides by self.
- Youth 3 (6 to 13 years): Students will coordinate the front and back crawl strokes. They will also learn the elementary backstroke, treading water and safety skills. Prerequisite: swimming 10 yards on front rolling to back when needed for air. Swim 10 yards on back using arms and legs to propel.
- Youth 4 (6 to 13 years): Build and improve on the front crawl, back stroke and elementary backstroke. Introduction to the breast stroke and side stroke and turns at the wall. Prerequisite: swim front crawl, back stroke and elementary backstroke for 25 yards each and tread water for 30 seconds.
- Youth 5 (6 to 13 years): Students will learn the butterfly stroke and flip turns. They also will refine and improve endurance in the front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke and elementary backstroke. Prerequisite: swim 50 yards of front crawl, back crawl and elementary back stroke, 25 yards of breaststroke and sidestroke, plus tread water for 2 minutes.
- Junior Stroke (6 to 13 years): Students will continue to refine all strokes to perform with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness. They will learn the fundamentals of personal water safety. Prerequisite: swim all six strokes well for 50 yards each and tread water for 5 minutes.
- Mini Masters (6 to 13 years): This class is a coached work out and will train swimmers through a series of drills. They will learn the fundamentals of swimming for personal fitness as a lifelong fitness activity. Prerequisite: swim 50 yards of front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke and be familiar with the butterfly stroke.
- Swim Fit for Teens (10 to 16 years): The focus of this class is to maintain swimming skills while improving endurance and a lifelong love for swimming. Prerequisite: swim 100 yards each of front crawl and back crawl continuously.
Swim lessons are non-refundable, make-ups for members only if space allows. Limit one per session, must be used in current session.
Group exercise water classes are a great way to increase strength, range of motion and endurance while reducing stress on your joints and muscles.
Hours for Family Swim are:
Monday and Wednesday: 7 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday: 4 to 5 p.m.
Friday: 12 to 2 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 1:30 to 4 p.m.
Members may bring nonmember guests to swim. Children under the age of 2 are free if the guardian is a member, children ages 12 and under are $5 each and guests 13 years or older may attend Family Swim for $15 each.
Registration is required for all open swim time slots. Registration is limited and closes 2 hours prior to the open swim time.
