Rush Oak Park Earns First-Ever Magnet With Distinction Designation

Hospital receives overall Magnet recognition for third time
Rush Oak Park nurses and CEO Dino Rumoro, DO, celebrate the hospital's Magnet designation

Rush Oak Park Hospital has once again been recognized with the prestigious Magnet designation, marking its third consecutive acknowledgment for nursing excellence.

And for the first time, Rush Oak Park earned Magnet with Distinction, which acknowledges top-tier organizations that exceed the scoring thresholds required to attain Magnet designation. Only about 3% of U.S. hospitals have earned Magnet with Distinction.

The Magnet recognition is given by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, an independent organization that evaluates nursing practices and outcomes. Only a select number of hospitals across the nation, representing the highest levels of nursing excellence, achieve this distinction.

"The redesignation of Magnet status underscores our unwavering commitment to exceptional patient care," said Angela Cooper, DNP, RN, associate vice president of Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer at Rush Oak Park. "Our nurses' dedication and clinical expertise continue to set a benchmark for excellence in health care."

Dino Rumoro, DO, MPH, chief administrative officer of Rush University Medical Center and Rush Oak Park, emphasized the significance of this achievement.

"This recognition reflects the tireless efforts of our nursing staff," he said. "It is a testament to their dedication and the impact they make on patient outcomes every day."

Earning Magnet status involves a rigorous evaluation process, evaluating nursing practices, patient outcomes, and interdisciplinary efforts to enhance patient safety. The recent redesignation follows an extensive review process that included qualitative evidence and a virtual site visit earlier this year.

All three Rush hospitals, including Rush University Medical Center and Rush Copley Medical Center, have earned the coveted Magnet recognition.

With only a fraction of hospitals nationwide achieving Magnet status, Rush remains at the forefront of nursing innovation and patient care excellence.
