CMS ratings considered a key indicator of quality of care

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has again given high marks to RUSH in its recently released 2023 ratings.

Both RUSH University Medical Center and RUSH Oak Park Hospital maintained their five-star ratings, the highest possible, and RUSH Copley Medical Center retained its four-star rating while improving its overall score.

The CMS ratings are widely considered a key indicator of quality, and five stars indicate the highest quality of care, the most positive outcomes and a patient experience that only a small fraction of hospitals demonstrate.

In addition to the CMS ratings, RUSH hospitals regularly score high or at the very top of other important assessments of the quality of care. They include Vizient rankings — which place RUSH University Medical Center among the top two on a list of 101 major U.S. academic medical centers — and Magnet designation, which all three RUSH hospitals have. For 2023-2024, RUSH was ranked among the nation’s top 22 hospitals on U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals Honor Roll.

The star ratings are based on data hospitals report to CMS about mortality, safety of care, readmissions, patient experience, and effectiveness and timeliness of care. More information about the ratings methodology is available on the CMS website.

Consumers can find more information about each hospital's ratings and compare ratings using Medicare's website.
