Newsweek magazine has once again named RUSH University Medical Center one of the world’s best hospitals, ranking it 18th in the U.S. and 54th in the world.

The magazine partnered with Statista, a provider of market and consumer data, to produce and conduct health care industry leadership surveys, patient surveys and publicly available performance metrics to create a ranking system that compares hospitals from around the world.

The 2023 World’s Best Hospitals list scoring system prioritized expert opinions from industry leaders, but also accounted for publicly available data about performance and patient satisfaction in these four areas:

  • Input from peers (doctors, hospital managers and health care professionals), who were asked to recommend hospitals in their own country.
  • Publicly available performance indicators on a wide variety of hospital effectiveness and safety measures that hospitals report to regulatory agencies.
  • Publicly available patient satisfaction surveys conducted by insurance companies.
  • Patient surveys that measure perception of their well-being and care received.

RUSH University Medical Center's high ranking is consistent with national ratings and rankings that demonstrate how the medical center is rated near the top across all the major hospitals rating systems.

RUSH University Medical Center is one of only six hospitals in the U.S. — and the only one in Illinois — to appear in Vizient, Inc.’s “Quality Leadership Ranking” of top academic medical centers (No. 3 of 12), earn Honor Roll distinction by U.S. News & World Report, receive an “A” grade from Leapfrog on safety and earn five stars in the federal government’s Hospital Quality Star Ratings.
