Each year the Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Nurses Alumni Association Board of Directors awards the Distinguished Alumni Award and the newly created Excellence in Practice Award to two College of Nursing alumni.

2024 Distinguished Alumni Award
Susan Corbridge, PhD, APRN, FAANP, FCCP, FAAN
Class of 1993 & 1996
With over 37 years of dedicated service to the nursing profession, Susan Corbridge, PhD, APRN, FAANP, FCCP, FAAN, has driven quality, accessibility and cost-effectiveness in healthcare for marginalized populations with unequal access to care and has led changes in nursing policy and practice on multiple levels and in various venues. She has created innovative, interprofessional, strategic academic-practice partnerships and leading-edge pedagogies and has planned and implemented policy-changing leadership initiatives.
As a leader on national teams that focus on interprofessional practice, Dr. Corbridge has used her integrative work to enhance education and clarify scope of practice. At the local and state level, her leadership in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Corrections served as a national model to enhance education, practice and policy and improve population health. For this work, Dr. Corbridge has been recognized by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board, the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Academy of Nursing, among others.
Dr. Corbridge is a nationally recognized expert in nurse practitioner education, pulmonary nursing and advanced practice. After a successful 23-year career on faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing and as a clinical professor in the Department of Medicine at UI Health, she earned the recognition of clinical professor emerita.
Dr. Corbridge, who now leads national efforts for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, or AACN, in Washington, D.C., oversees all aspects of AACN’s work to facilitate the implementation of the 2021 Essentials and transition of nursing education curricula, including national academic practice initiatives and other national nursing initiatives funded by the American Nurses Foundation and Johnson & Johnson. She leads contributions to educational policy and international awareness of AACN’s educational standards and framework, and she continues to serve as a national expert, leader and mentor in nursing education and practice.
2024 Excellence in Practice Award
Amy Manderscheid, DNP, RN, AGPCNP-BC, AGNP-C, CMSRN
Class of 2011
Dr. Amy Manderscheid, DNP, RN, AGPCNP-BC, AGNP-C, CMSRN, serves as acting dean at Kirkhof College of Nursing at Grand Valley State University, or GVSU. She holds two Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees, including one in health systems leadership from Rush University and another as an adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner from GVSU. She was honored with the DNP Project Award from Rush University and the GVSU Graduate Dean’s Citation Award: Academic Excellence in a Degree Program for the Doctor of Nursing Practice.
As acting dean, Dr. Manderscheid has helped to transform culture through check-ins with faculty and staff, alignment of graduate program application processes, and finalization of the college strategic plan and program outcomes.
Dr. Manderscheid taught across undergraduate and graduate programs and served as a project adviser for DNP students and undergraduate honors students. Her dedication led to being honored with the Excellence in Education Award from her Sigma Theta Tau chapter and the GVSU Graduate Dean’s Citation Award: Outstanding Faculty Mentorship Award.
Dr. Manderscheid’s scholarship centers around the value of the DNP-prepared nurse, and she is a member of an international scholarship team. Together, they authored numerous publications, presentations and contributions to the nursing profession. Additionally, Dr. Manderscheid composed a book chapter published in the fourth edition of “The Doctor of Nursing Practice Project: A Framework for Success;” presented workshops at the International Council of Nurses NP/APN Network Conference in Dublin, Ireland; and continues scholarly endeavors in Aberdeen, Scotland. She serves as principal investigator on a $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration to embed multi-patient simulations in undergraduate education.
Dr. Manderscheid is a member of the International Council of Nurses NP/APN Network, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association, Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners and Sigma Theta Tau International. She continues to practice as an adult-gerontology nurse practitioner.
