About Courage to Quit

Whether you’re thinking of quitting smoking or you’ve already started, Rush is here to help.

Courage to Quit at Rush University Medical Center — in partnership with the Respiratory Health Association — is an evidence-based, behavioral health program that helps smokers at all levels. It can help people who use tobacco, smokeless tobacco or e-cigarettes.

Whenever you’re ready, you can join our virtual, group-based sessions. Our program is led by smoking cessation experts, who will provide the tools and resources to help you quit.

What to expect

Our program consists of four sessions with rotating topics every Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. Each includes check-ins, goal setting, a dedicated topic and interactive discussions.

Sessions can include the following topics:

  • Addiction and withdrawal
  • Smoking medicines and treatments
  • Managing cravings
  • Reducing and managing triggers
  • Stress management
  • Healthy living ideas
  • Health benefits of quitting
  • Other quitting resources

Although you can join our program at any time and for as long you need, we ask that you attend at least four sessions.

How to join

To join our Courage to Quit program, talk to your Rush provider or call the Prevention Center at (312) 942-3133 to get scheduled for the next session. You will receive a link through MyChart to join the video call.
