How virtual second opinions work

Select the condition for which you are seeking a second opinion. You’ll schedule your appointment online. Appointments are available as soon as today or tomorrow.
2. Have your virtual appointment
You’ll have your virtual appointment with a knowledgeable member of the Rush team. They will review your history, confirm eligibility and find the right Rush expert for your care.
3. We'll guide you through next steps
After the virtual visit, our team will coordinate your next steps. Depending on your condition and records, you may have an additional appointment with a Rush provider to discuss your diagnosis and treatment options.
All initial virtual second opinion visits are available to patients in Illinois. Neurosurgery virtual second opinion visits are also available to patients in Indiana, and we plan to expand our services to additional locations soon. Subsequent visits may be in person at one of our Chicago area facilities.

If your doctor has recommended an experimental treatment or surgery, your insurance may require you to get a second opinion before proceeding.
For cancer second opinions, your first visit will be with a registered nurse who will begin the intake process for getting you connected with the right Rush provider for your condition. There is no charge for this first nurse-based visit.
For all other second opinions, your first visit will be with a Rush provider.
If you are scheduling a cancer second opinion intake appointment, you will not be charged for the initial appointment. Subsequent appointments will be billed to your insurance.
Virtual second opinion appointments for all other conditions will be billed to your insurance. Self-pay options are available for urology and cardiology appointments.
