Max Fitzgerald has been part of Rush since 2008, when he earned his medical degree from Rush Medical College. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rush University Medical Center, serving as chief resident in his final year before joining the faculty.
As a clinician, Fitzgerald has led several key initiatives across the Rush system. He managed the CMS 5-Star–rated Skilled Care Unit at Rush Oak Park Hospital, developed ambulatory programs at multiple Rush regional sites, and helped shape post-acute care practices throughout the organization. He played a central role in the formation of Rush Medical Group and in the design and launch of Rush North & Harlem.
Fitzgerald’s leadership extends beyond clinical care. His administrative roles have included associate residency program director, chairman of the Rush Oak Park Bylaws Committee, treasurer of the Rush Oak Park Medical Staff, and his current role as associate chief medical officer for Rush Oak Park. In recognition of his contributions to clinical programming and leadership, he was promoted to associate professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2025.
Outside of Rush, Fitzgerald is actively involved in the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and enjoys spending time with his family.
