Brain training: Computer games for improved cognition.

Contact Information

Clinical Trial Protocol Description:

The purpose of this trial is to identify whether playing computer games improves cognition, including memory and attention, in young people at high risk for developing a psychotic disorder. The study involves an initial screening, after which potential participants are invited to the lab for a clinical interview to further determine eligibility. Eligible participants will be enrolled in an internet-based cognitive training program that will require participants to complete several computer games each day for four to five weeks at a time. Participants will also complete questionnaires, behavioral tasks, a MRI, and a daily diary at the beginning, middle, and end of the internet-based training. The majority of the study will last 10-12 weeks; however, participants will be asked to return for a nine-month follow-up visit to complete additional questionnaires and behavioral tasks. Participants will be compensated for their time and effort.

Clinical Trial Eligibility Criteria:

In order to participate you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years old at the time of study screening.
  • Have characteristics associated with risk for psychosis, including (but not limited to) the following:
    • Mild psychotic-like symptoms, such as odd perceptual experiences, subtle auditory or visual hallucinations, feeling that your mind is playing tricks on you.
    • First degree relative with a psychotic disorder.

You will be excluded from the study if any of the following criteria apply to you:

  • Have met criteria for a psychotic disorder (including schizoaffective disorder and psychosis NOS).
  • Have major medical illness or neurological disorder.

This is a partial list of eligibility requirements. To inquire about your eligibility, please call the contact number provided. If you wish to inquire via email, please include the title of the study in your message.
