Rush Excellence in Endoscopic Mucosal Resection

  • Quick consultation and scheduling: Our interventional endoscopists can usually review your case within 24 to 36 hours and schedule your procedure within days. When needed, endoscopists at Rush will consult with a colorectal surgeon to determine the best treatment recommendations for you.
  • Quick recovery time: After an endoscopic mucosal resection, our patients have a faster recovery time than patients who have had surgery.
  • Expertise in endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD): If you have a deep tumor in your digestive tract, an ESD might be a better option for you than an EMR. Rush endoscopists have expertise with this complex technique, which is not widely available. With ESD, we are able to remove early-stage cancers in one piece, potentially curing the cancer and helping you avoid surgery in situations where EMR cannot. When you have an ESD at Rush, you can go home the same day.
  • Top-ranked programs: If you are diagnosed with cancer or a serious GI issue, we have a dedicated team of experts committed to helping you through this time. That's just one reason why U.S. News & World Report ranks Rush University Medical Center's cancer, gastroenterology and GI surgery programs among the best in the country.
