  • Epilepsy is a brain disorder in which clusters of nerve cells sometimes signal abnormally, often causing a seizure.
  • Seizures

    Seizures are the result of abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Some seizures involve sudden, uncontrollable shaking or other movements. Other seizures involve only mild symptoms. Many conditions can cause seizures, including epilepsy, meningitis, heart disease and others.
  • Status Epilepticus

    Status epilepticus is a condition that causes either prolonged seizures (lasting more than five minutes) or repeated seizures in between which a person does not regain consciousness. People with epilepsy have a higher risk of status epilepticus, compared with the general population. It is life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention.
