The Child and Adolescent Inpatient Unit at Rush provides exceptional diagnostic, therapeutic and educational services to children and adolescents exhibiting severe emotional disturbances. The 15-bed unit accommodates males and females, ages 3 to 16.
Patients participate in activities, therapeutic groups and school sessions appropriate to their age or developmental range. The unit's staff is committed to creating an atmosphere in which children and adolescents are respected and their needs recognized and understood.
Families are encouraged to be actively involved in the treatment process. Staff members seek to understand the family’s view of the patient’s situation and to provide education and explanation on the child’s difficulties. With the consent of the patient and family, professionals who have referred the patient for treatment are encouraged to participate in the weekly multidisciplinary treatment planning meetings and the discharge planning process.
