Referring Physicians: Vascular Surgery Services

RUSH’s board-certified surgeons, led by a chief of surgery with more than 25 years of experience in academic surgery, are experts in both complex open and endovascular techniques. They manage the entire spectrum of arterial, venous and lymphatic disorders, including vascular diseases that affect women and high-performing athletes.

The referral process is fast and easy, with patients able to schedule virtual visits within 24 hours of initial contact. Patients have access to our network of surgeons and vascular medicine physicians throughout the Chicago area, including Aurora, Oak Park and Oak Brook.

Our physicians work with specialists across disciplines to explore options for each individual patient while including the referring physician in the process. This collaborative approach leads to more comprehensive and integrated care for patients, superior outcomes and high patient satisfaction.

Who Are Ideal Candidates for Vascular Surgery at RUSH?

Any patient in need of treatment for vascular conditions, from the common to the complex, will find an experienced team that will address their needs at RUSH. We particularly encourage patients who’ve had multiple failed previous interventions to seek care here.

Our surgeons are trained in advanced endovascular technology and open surgical techniques. They are highly skilled in carotid stenting, thoracic outlet decompression, arterial reconstructions, lower extremity arterial bypass surgery and venous procedures.

Why Refer Patients Here?

  • Nationally recognized care: U.S. News & World Report includes RUSH on its Best Hospitals Honor Roll and ranks our programs among the best in the nation for cardiology, heart and vascular surgery.
  • Hybrid operating room: Physicians at RUSH University Medical Center perform vascular surgeries in a state-of-the-art hybrid operating room that integrates minimally invasive procedures with open surgeries to streamline patient care and reduce length of stay.
  • Multidisciplinary conferences: We host collaborative conferences to review patient cases with specialists across disciplines. Our full team provides its expertise on surgical and care plans so patients can feel confident in their treatment options and achieve better outcomes.
  • Reduced stroke risk: Conditions such as an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) or carotid artery disease can lead to increased risk of stroke. Our team’s comprehensive Stroke-Neurosurgery Clinic creates personalized treatment plans designed to prevent stroke, with a full range of medications, surgery, minimally invasive procedures and risk reduction strategies to select the approach that works best for the patient.
  • Wound care and limb preservation: Our specialists diagnose and manage extremity non-healing wounds and have excellent outcomes for limb preservation. They address the entire patient, including management of risk factors, nutritional needs and treatment options to heal wounds and restore lost function.
  • Vascular Quality Initiative: We participate in the Vascular Quality Initiative to improve the safety and effectiveness of vascular care by collecting and sharing data on risks, variables and outcomes.
