Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Program Referrals

The Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Program at Rush evaluates patients affected by abnormal, delayed, excessive or involuntary changes in movement, as well as the mental and emotional challenges those changes can bring, and provides them with comprehensive, individualized treatment plans.

Our nationally recognized care incorporates the most advanced surgical and non-surgical treatments in its care for patients. Rush is the only center in the Midwest to offer MR- guided focused ultrasound, an incisionless, non-invasive approach for treating essential and parkinsonian tremor. We are also the only facility in Chicago to perform asleep deep brain stimulation, where patients receive DBS surgery under anesthesia, ensuring their greater comfort.

Why refer your patients here?

Rush has been designated as one of the world’s 47 Parkinson’s Foundation Centers of Excellence, the most respected and sought-after designation in the movement disorders field. Each center is required to meet rigorous clinical, research, professional education and patient care criteria, while also setting the highest standards of care worldwide for people with Parkinson’s disease.

Since 2005, Rush has been a Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) Center of Excellence, which signifies an elite team approach to Huntington’s disease care and research. Rush was the first program in Illinois to receive this honor and is currently one of only 46 HDSA Centers of Excellence nationwide.

Rush is a Tourette Association of America Center of Excellence, which is given to institutions that offer the highest level of care, are undertaking groundbreaking research, are leaders in training and education, and/or provide exceptional community outreach and advocacy for Tourette syndrome and other tic disorders.

Rush has the only Research Center of Excellence for Lewy body dementia in Illinois. As part of a national Lewy body dementia consortium, Rush can offer clinical trials and other research opportunities for LBD that are not widely available.
