There have been numerous articles in professional journals related to the impact of the pandemic on health care workers. Resilience is defined as the ability to navigate life, adapting to change, learning through adversity and understanding feelings and emotional responses. It is an evolving way of being. Prolonged exposure to work related stress can lead to nurse burnout, which can be a contributing factor to nurse satisfaction and nurse turnover. Mindfulness training has been noted to help reduce nurses’ anxiety and stress and subsequent burnout. (Pagador, Barone, Manoukian, Xu and Kim. May 2022)
Self-care is a strategy to reduce nurse stress and fatigue, and supports the ability to provide compassionate care to patients. Nurses are encouraged to treat themselves with the same compassion they would extend to a close friend in a difficult situation. (Biber, 2022)
As part of a research project to support nurse recovery after the pandemic, we are providing some “on demand” activities to promote self-care, mindfulness, and wellness for our nursing team. Please feel free to utilize the tools. Additional resources are also available on the Wellness page of the Rush Copley employee portal.
Thank you for considering utilizing the mindfulness tools to restore your passion for our profession.
