Current administrative fellows
Lauren McCarter earned her Master of Health Administration degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. During her graduate program, McCarter worked as a graduate administrative assistant, served as president of the Master of Health Administration Student Association, and participated in the University of Birmingham Alabama Case Competition. McCarter completed a summer internship at UNC Health Care with Patient Safety and Performance Improvement. She worked on several projects including analyzing predictive analytic tools to implement in Epic and creating a value-based purchasing scorecard for system leaders.
Prior to entering graduate school, McCarter taught high school chemistry with Teach For America in Jacksonville, Florida. She received her undergraduate degree in genetics from Clemson University. While attending Clemson, McCarter volunteered for a federally qualified health clinic and local community hospital. During her administrative fellowship, she is excited to further develop her interests in hospital operations, system transformation, process improvement and finance.
Casey Sparks earned her Master of Health Administration degree from the University of Kentucky. During this time, Sparks interned for the University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center. She worked on a variety of projects, including implementation of an electronic medical record system, process improvement and patient satisfaction initiatives. Most significantly, Sparks worked with various mentors to request a lab, triage center and central registration for Markey, combining finance and operational knowledge.
Prior to graduate school, Sparks received her undergraduate degree in biology, also from the University of Kentucky. During her undergraduate studies, she spent many hours volunteering, shadowing and working within various facets of health care, as well as a bench cancer research lab. During her administrative fellowship, Sparks is excited to continue building the skills needed for her interests in process improvement, hospital operations and patient access.
