When Craig Silverton, DO, returned to the U.S. from military service with the Air Force, he applied for a fellowship in total-joint orthopedics at Rush, where he studied under Aaron Rosenberg, MD.
“Aaron changed the path of my life,” Silverton said.
Twenty years after the fellowship, Silverton and Rosenberg’s longtime nurse, Regina Barden, convinced 57 other physicians — including other former residents and fellows, as well as Rosenberg’s partners at Midwest Orthopaedics — to collectively donate $2 million to fund an endowed chair in Rosenberg’s name.
Rosenberg never saw it coming.
“I was shocked that on my behalf a number of people were pursuing this,” Rosenberg said. “I felt humbled by it.”
