Study of Chronic Kidney Disease in Children of Diabetic Mothers

The purpose of this study is to determine if children born to women who had diabetes during their pregnancy are more likely to have chronic kidney disease as teenagers. We need 150 children, 14-21 years old, to submit one small blood and urine sample. We also need to ask the mother simple questions about her pregnancy, lasting about 5 minutes. The study would provide $40 to cover the cost of travel.

In order to participate your child must meet the following criteria:

• Were born in the United States.
• Are 14-21 years old.

Your child will be excluded from the study if any of the following criteria apply:

• Have lupus or sickle cell disease.
• Have a genetic syndrome.
