Drug Screen, Urine (View in report form.)

CERNER / EPIC MNEMONIC: U/DS
POE DESCRIPTION: URINE DRUG SCREEN; U/DS
CPT CODE: 80101 (x7)
TEST INFORMATION: Test includes amphetamine, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates and phencyclidine. This test provides only qualitative detection of the seven drugs/drug classes listed above. Quantitation of drug levels is not included and is not recommended because urine levels are time and clearance dependent and are not directly related to toxic symptoms seen clinically. For specific quantitative drug blood levels, see the listing by specific generic drug name for drug desired. When a serum drug screen and a urine drug screen are ordered simultaneously, only results of the urine drug screen will be reported. When a serum specimen is sent instead of urine, a urine specimen will be requested. Specify the drug or drugs suspected on the requisition.
DAYS PERFORMED: Daily, 24 hours
TURNAROUND TIME: Routine: 4 hours; stat: 1 hour
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: Do not use results of the urine drug screen for medicolegal purposes. For medicolegal purposes, specimens should be collected using chain-of-custody precautions and screening results should be confirmed using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Chain-of-custody and confirmation are not part of the urine drug screen and are not available in this laboratory.
CONTAINER TYPE: Sterile 80 mL specimen container
SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS: 1.0 mL random urine; serum (blood) is not required for a drug screen unless the patient cannot (or will not) produce urine.
MINIMUM VOLUME: 0.5 mL random urine
REFERENCE RANGE: None detected
METHODOLOGY:

Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA)

TEST SYNONYM(S):Drugs of Abuse Screen, Urine; Urine Drug Screen
