SPECIMEN REJECTION CRITERIA

  • Common causes for specimen rejection include:

  • Specimen unlabeled or labeled improperly

  • Specimen improperly collected

  • Specimen not collected in required container

  • Specimen submitted without mandatory patient information

  • Specimen volume not sufficient for test protocol or proper blood: anticoagulant ratio

  • Patient improperly prepared as specified for test procedure (fasting, etc.)

  • Specimens received in the laboratory with attached needles
