No Other Illinois Hospital Ranked in More Categories Than Rush
Eleven Rush University Medical Center programs were ranked among the best in the nation according to the July 17 issue of U.S.News & World Report magazine. The magazine lists the top 50 hospitals across the country for each of 17 medical care specialties as part of the magazine's annual "America's Best Hospitals" issue.
Just 176 out of 6,007 hospitals scored high enough this year to rank in even a single specialty, according to the magazine.
In four of the specialty areas, Rush was ranked higher than any other hospital in Illinois. These include Orthopedics (#8 in the nation), Neurology and Neurosurgery (#11 in the nation), Geriatrics (#14 in the nation), and Kidney Disease (#14 in the nation).
The rankings of other Rush programs are: Endocrinology, #18; Gynecology, #27; Gastroenterology, #28; Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat), #28; Pulmonary (Respiratory Disorders), #30; Cancer, #34; and Urology, #36.
According to U.S.News & World Report, "the hospitals in the rankings are referral centers, because their physicians see sicker patients and do greater numbers of tough procedures. They follow, often pioneer, advanced treatment guidelines. They conduct bench-to-bedside research. And they exploit advances in imaging, surgical devices and other technologies. It's an elite group."
