Rush Appoints Expert in Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Disorders Chairperson for the Department of Psychiatry
 

(CHICAGO) — Dr. Mark H. Pollack has been appointed as the chairperson of the Department of Psychiatry in Rush Medical College. Dr. Thomas Deutsch, dean of Rush Medical College and senior vice president, Rush University Medical Center, announced Pollack’s appointment.

“Dr. Pollack brings a wealth of academic, clinical and administrative experience from his position as professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, director of the Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Disorders at the Massachusetts General Hospital, program leader for traumatic stress at the Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology and chief medical officer of the Red Sox Foundation-MGH Home Base Program for Veterans,” said Deutsch. 

Pollack’s primary clinical and research interests are in the area of anxiety and traumatic stress disorders, including the neurobiology, psychopathology and treatment of these conditions.

He received his medical degree from New Jersey Medical School, and completed his residency in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital where he has practiced his entire career until coming to Rush.

“I anticipate that Dr. Pollack will direct an expansion that will create the premier academic Department of Psychiatry in our region, and among the best in the country,” said Deutsch.

Dr. Pollack has received federal funding for his research from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA), as well as support from a number of foundations   He has published over 300 articles, reviews and chapters, and is co-editor of the books "Challenges in Clinical Practice: Pharmacologic and Psychosocial Strategies,” “Panic Disorder and Its Treatment,” and “Social Phobia: Research and Practice” and “Ten Minute CBT.” Dr. Pollack is editor-in-chief of the journal CNS Neuroscience and Therapeutics, lectures widely in national and international forum, and on the Board of Directors of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America.
