• Expertise in advanced-stage skin cancers: Rush’s experienced team of skin cancer specialists see a high volume of patients for the treatment of melanoma, one of the most aggressive types of skin cancers. But thanks to breakthroughs in diagnosis and treatment, our team of specialists has helped improve the overall outlook for patients. In fact, six years ago, overall survival for a patient diagnosed with metastatic melanoma was about nine months. Now, with either combination targeted therapy or combination immunotherapy, overall survival rates at one year are over 80%.
• Cutting-edge treatments: Rush University Medical Center is one of a few medical centers that offer isolated limb infusion (ILI) for skin cancers. This minimally invasive procedure delivers high doses of chemotherapy to an affected limb but spares the rest of the body from the toxicity of the chemotherapy.
