At Rush, we believe in caring for and healing the whole person — body, mind and spirit. This mind-body connection is especially important during cancer treatment, to help you regain a sense of well-being and to promote healing. That is why the Cancer Integrative Medicine Program is part of the Rush University Cancer Center.
The program offers integrative therapies to complement traditional cancer treatment methods. Integrative therapies can enhance your treatment by reducing the mental and physical stresses that often accompany traditional treatments.
These are some of the benefits of complementary therapies:
- Relieve stress
- Ease muscle tension
- Reduce anxiety
- Decrease nausea
- Reduce pain
- Increase energy
- Improve mood
Your practitioner will work closely with other members of your care team to understand and address your needs. Before your first visit, you will have a short discussion with a program staff person about your medical situation and your goals for healing. Together, you will determine which services may be most beneficial to you.
These services are available to patients at any stage of cancer care and their family members:
- Massage therapy
