Rush offers a comprehensive approach to the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care of people with all forms of acute and chronic leukemia. In addition to a full range of standard treatments, many patients participate in studies of promising new approaches. Bone marrow transplant has changed the outlook for many patients with leukemia. When a bone marrow transplant is determined to be the most appropriate treatment, Rush physicians and other specialists help the patient through all stages of the transplant, from preliminary evaluation through follow-up care.
Rush also offers comprehensive evaluation and treatment for people with pre-leukemia, or myelodysplastic syndrome. Rush cares for more patients with this condition than any other program in the United States. This program emphasizes the development and study of innovative treatments, including nontoxic therapies designed to slow the progression of the disease and prevent the development of leukemia, with minimal side effects for patients.
