Services Provided

The department offers all new urologic technologies. High-tech care includes:

  • Cryosurgery for the treatment of localized prostate cancer. Rush was among the first U.S. centers to offer this therapy.
  • Brachytherapy for prostate cancer, both seed implantation and high dose rate administration.
  • Microwave therapy for benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). This minimally invasive procedure can be done in a physician’s office, without general anesthesia or sedation, in approximately one hour. Clinical studies have demonstrated that this treatment offers improved urine flow, excellent symptomatic relief and minimal side effects when compared to traditional surgical treatment.
  • Laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery.
  • Endoscopicremoval, laser lithotripsy and extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy for stone disease.
  • Robotic surgery including prostatectomy for prostate cancer, partial nephrectomy and ureteropelvic junction pyeloplasty.
  • A full range of treatments for erectile dysfunction, including prosthetic implant surgery, erectile aids and medical therapy.
  • Treatment for female urinary dysfunction with the Inter-Stim bladder pacemaker.
