The Department of Urology at Rush provides the highest quality of care for urological diseases. Physicians in the program are experienced in the latest techniques in the field, including laparoscopic surgery and other minimally invasive techniques that enable patients to return to normal activity much more quickly than with traditional therapies.
The department offers all new urologic technologies for the care of adults and children. High-tech care includes:
- Cryosurgery for the treatment of localized prostate cancer. Rush was among the first U.S. centers to offer this therapy.
- Microwave therapy for benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). This minimally invasive procedure can be done in a physician’s office, without general anesthesia or sedation, in approximately one hour. Clinical studies have demonstrated that this treatment offers improved urine flow, excellent symptomatic relief and minimal side effects when compared to traditional surgical treatment.
- Laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery
- Robotic prostatectomy
- A full range of treatments for erectile dysfunction, including prosthetic surgery, erectile aids and medical therapy.
- Treatment for female incontinence with the Inter-Stim bladder pacemaker.
- Pediatric urologic services, including the latest diagnostic techniques and treatments for congenital and acquired urological conditions.
