The Multiple Sclerosis Center Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois combines comprehensive treatment with clinical and laboratory research to provide the highest quality patient care. In existence since the early 1970s, it is the largest center of its kind in the Midwest, serving more than 3,000 patients from around the country.

In the early 1970s, scientists at Rush were first to develop a research program that focused exclusively on symptomatic therapies for MS patients. Today, research continues to be an integral part of the center’s activities. Besides developing and testing new MS treatments, Rush scientists conduct a variety of studies to gain a better understanding of abnormal nerve function in MS.

Because multiple sclerosis is a complex illness and patients’ needs vary greatly, the Rush Multiple Sclerosis Center offers an innovative team approach to managing the disease. Led by medical director Dusan Stefoski, MD, the center’s multidisciplinary staff includes neurologists, psychologists, a clinical nurse specialist, occupational and physical therapists, physiologists and research technicians working together to provide MS patients and their families with complete and individualized care.
