Rush Earns Certification to Offer VADs as Destination Therapy

Michael J. Liptay, MD, is chairperson of the Department of Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago

Rush's Advanced Heart Failure, Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support Program recently received advanced certification in ventricular assist device (VAD) destination therapy certification from the Joint Commission.

This certification recognizes Rush's excellence in the use of VADs as a destination therapy.

Rush is one of only a handful of hospitals in Chicago to receive this certification. To receive the certification, the program had to demonstrate that it complies with national standards, integrates evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and has an organized approach to performance improvement in place.

"We now have a full portfolio of advanced heart failure therapies to better serve our patients'needs,” says José C. Méndez, MD, medical director of the program.

For more information or to refer a patient to the program, call (312) 563-2121.
