Child and Adolescent Inpatient Testimonials
"We have a 5-year-old son with a mood disorder, and we had the unfortunate need to admit him to the Rush Children's Hospital Kellogg unit, and I'm sure you can understand what a difficult time that was. The doctors, as well as the entire staff on the unit, helped us with this extremely emotional journey during a difficult time of the year. His doctor called us daily with reports on their observations and findings, as well as what the next course of actions were, and this eased our mind tremendously. I feel they went beyond in easing our fears and concerns, continuing to provide updates all week as well as weekends. I know that they cared for my son, and their exemplary dedication to his mental health shows that."
"The hardest decision of our lives was to admit our daughter to a psychiatric hospital. We were scared, sad and unsure. However, it did not take long to feel reassured by the doctors and the staff at 4 Kellogg. Psychiatrists at 4 Kellogg are not only highly experienced and dedicated, they treated us like family. All of the nurses, social workers and staff were very kind and professional. It was a very stressful time, and they made us feel increasingly optimistic as each day passed. We will be forever grateful to everyone at 4 Kellogg for helping our daughter and family."
"Rush University Medical Center Child and Adolescent Psychiatric unit was a turning point for my 11-year-old son and our family. My son has ADHD and PDD. He has struggled with poor frustration tolerance, mood swings, social issues, depression and aggression. My husband and I tried many options. We saw many psychologists over the years trying to understand and resolve the issues. For our son, starting middle school was the straw that broke the camel's back. The transition, academically and socially, was extremely overwhelming for him. He needed to be hospitalized. It was one of the most terrifying moments in my life. I brought him to the best child and adolescent psychiatric unit in the Chicago area at Rush University Medical Center. As a nurse and a mother, I can tell you that the staff is excellent. They are professional, kind and empathic. They smoothly create a safe environment in which you and your child can better understand and learn to manage the issues. When my son started middle school, he would cry on Monday morning because he did not want to go. Now, he tells me, "Mom, come on, we're going to be late." Some children and families need extra special support and guidance, and I am so glad Rush University Medical Center and Dr. Makki are there to provide it."
