NICU Social Workers
We understand that having a child in the hospital is very stressful for parents and family members. A licensed social worker is a professional counselor who helps to assess and alleviate problems related to personal, family or social situations. As members of the multidisciplinary health care team, social workers are familiar with the many kinds of stress that families may experience and are available to assist in a variety of ways. This team helps provide support for the patient and family; coordinate discharge planning and insurance benefits; help with financial problems and family conflicts. Social workers also assist with finding community resources, such as support groups or educational materials, and frequently help with arranging a Family Meeting with the health care team during times of difficult decision-making. To learn more about social work in the NICU, call (312) 947-8800 or email one of our social workers.
