In July, the Department of Neurological Surgery and University Neurologists' epilepsy services moved into adjacent suites (855 and 885, respectively) in the Professional Building. While maintaining separate office and registration areas, the programs will share clinical space.
This shared location will facilitate neurosurgery's collaboration in the care of epilepsy patients, allowing physicians from both programs to see a patient during a single visit. In addition, the new space includes features that will enhance patient care. All of the examination tables in the 15 exam rooms will be height adjustable, making it easier for patients with physical impairments to move off and onto them. Three exam rooms also will have the capacity to accommodate hospital gurneys.
Moreover, the new space will provide the programs with a greater number of combined examination rooms, reducing waiting times, as well as a larger and more comfortable waiting area. The entrance to the suite will use electronic doors that can be activated with the push of a button, making the suite easily accessible for patients in wheelchairs.
