Clinical Trial Title

Vasculitis Repository Study

Clinical Trial Protocol Description

If you agree, you will be asked to donate data collected as part of your clinical evaluation at Rush in the Section of Rheumatology. Data may include basic demographic information (i.e., age, gender, ethnicity), clinical notes, medical information from your Rush medical chart such as medications, clinical surveys, disease features, and results of blood tests. X-rays, MRIs and other imaging studies ordered by your physician may be recorded.

You will be asked to donate up to three tubes of blood (three to four teaspoons), and a urine sample. If you are undergoing a biopsy (removal of small pieces of tissue) of an organ (such as skin, kidney, lung, nerve, or liver) for clinical care purposes, you will be asked to donate up to four small (less than 1 cm or one third of an inch) pieces of the organ tissues that has been removed and would otherwise be discarded. In this case, the blood, and tissues would be collected during the course of your surgery/procedure while under anesthesia (numbing medication), and would not require additional incisions (cuts) to be made.

If you change your mind and wish to withdraw your participation at a later time, you may do so by contacting the Repository Manager at (312) 942-8799, and no further use will be made of the information, tissue and/or fluids that you donated.

The information in the storage bank will be available only to scientists in the Section of Rheumatology who have approval to do research studies. Under rare circumstances, specific other persons may have access to the information in the storage bank. These specific persons might include appropriate federal or state agencies (for example, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and National Institutes of Health), and the Rush Institutional Review Board. The IRB is a special committee that reviews human research to check that the rules and regulations are followed. If the results from any research study of your donated medical information are ever published for scientific purposes, your name and identity will remain confidential.
