APPRAISE-2: Examination of Apixaban (Factor Xa inhibitor) as adjunctive therapy in patients with recent Acute Coronary Syndrome
The purpose of this study is to determine whether Apixaban is safe and effective when used as an add-on therapy for patients who have recently undergone heart attack. The study is blinded and 50% of participants will receive placebo. Worldwide, 10,800 patients will be recruited for this study over the course of three years. At Rush University Medical Center we expect to recruit approximately 10 patients.
You may be eligible for this study if you:
- Have had a recent heart attack (within 7 days)
- Have two or more of the following risk factors
- Are 65 years of age or older
- Diabetes
- A history of stroke or carotid artery blockage
- Peripheral Vascular Disease or Claudication
- Heart failure
- Kidney function impairment
- Not had surgery to open blocked vessels post- heart attack
You are not eligible for this study if you:
- Undergo dialysis for Kidney Failure (ESRD)
- Have had a recent stroke within 7 days
- Have severe high blood pressure (above 180/110)
- Have active bleeding due to ulcers, gastrointestinal diseases, or cancer
- Require more than 325mg aspirin daily
