Clinical Trial Title

An intervention study to improve self-management in African-Americans with diabetes and hypertension.



Clinical Trial Protocol Description

Participants diagnosed with both type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension will be randomized into two groups. One group will attend an intensive intervention consisting of 18 classes within a 6 month period while the other group will attend 2 3-hour classes. Participants will receive $10 for every class attended. Both groups will participate in 3 2-hour interviews at Rush University Medical Center. Participants will receive $25 for each visit at Rush.



Clinical Trial Eligibility Criteria

You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:

  • Have a diagnosis of both type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension
  • Are African-American
  • Are at least 18 years old and not older than 75 years
