Mission and Goals

The mission of the Rush University Diabetes Center is to provide the highest quality of comprehensive and coordinated diabetes self-management education. It is our belief that by fostering an increase in knowledge we will help empower people with diabetes to manage it and prevent complications. With better management, people with diabetes may be able to delay or prevent complications.

Goals of the Rush University Diabetes Center include the following:

  1. To provide patients with diabetes, their families and/or their support system the educational content necessary to achieve optimal health.
  2. To focus on the patient's short- and long-term health goals.  Every educational session is patient specific, in which the patient sets the pace.
  3. To keep track of participants' behavioral and clinical outcomes as part of a continuous quality improvement process to evaluate the effectiveness of the diabetes education services.
  4. To provide each patient the knowledge and skills required to prevent and delay the complications from diabetes.
