Jonathan Somers, MD, is an attending surgeon in the Department of Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgery at Rush University Medical Center. Dr. Somers earned his MD degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed his residency in general surgery at Brown University, where he served as chief resident and received the Outstanding Surgical Resident Award. He came to Rush as a resident in cardiovascular-thoracic surgery in 1991.
Prior to joining the medical staff at Rush, Dr. Somers served as an attending surgeon in the Department of Surgery at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.
He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, the American College of Cardiology and the American Medical Society, among other groups.
Dr. Somers has published and presented on many topics in cardiac care and surgery.
