Michel N. Ilbawi, MD

Michel N. Ilbawi, MD, is director of pediatric cardiac surgery in the Department of Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He is widely regarded as a world-class pediatric cardiovascular-thoracic surgeon, and brings more than 25 years of experience to Rush.

Ilbawi completed his residency in general surgery at the American University of Beirut Hospital, cardiothoracic surgery at Case Western University, and pediatric cardiac surgery at Northwestern University. He was a fellow and later an attending physician at Children's Memorial Hospital. 

Ilbawi has appeared on Chicago magazine's list of Top Doctors of Metro Chicago since 2001, and in 2003 and 2008 was listed in the Castle Connolly guide to Top Doctors in the United States. He is also listed in Who's Who in America in 2004 and 2008. Board-certified in general and thoracic surgery, he is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Academy of Pediatrics, among others.

Ilbawi has published extensively in his field, and has presented widely in the United States and abroad.
