L. Penfield Faber, MD, is one of Chicago's top thoracic surgeons. He received his medical degree from Northwestern University. He completed his surgical residency at Presbyterian-St. Lukes Hospital (now Rush University Medical Center), followed by a thoracic surgery residency at Hines Hospital in Hines, Illinois.
Dr. Faber is vice chairman of the Department of Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgery at Rush University Medical Center. In addition to Rush, he has held faculty appointments at the University of Illinois Medical Center and at Cook County Hospital (now John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County).
Board certified in surgery and thoracic surgery, Dr. Faber has published extensively in his field, and has presented widely in the United States and abroad. He has held numerous leadership positions in a career than has spanned more than five decades. These include a term as president of the Chicago Surgical Society, several years of service as director of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and on that organizations executive board and membership on the Advisory Council for Cardiothoracic Surgery of the American College of Surgeons. He has been cited as one of the country's top surgeons by numerous publications and organizations, including Good Housekeeping magazine, Castle-Connolly Medical Ltd. And the Consumer Research Council of America.
