| | | Anastasios L. Polimenakos, MD | | Anastasios L. Polimenakos, MD, is an assistant professor of surgery with the Rush Center for Congenital and Structural Heart Disease at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He is a graduate of the National University of Athens School of Medicine. He completed a family medicine internship at Kythira General Hospital and Medical Center in Attiki, Greece. He completed his general surgical residency at New York Medical College at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City and at Case Western Reserve University Hospital of Cleveland. He went on to a fellowship in thoracic surgery at St. Louis University School of Medicine.
Before joining the medical staff at Rush, Dr. Polimenakos was a clinical instructor at the University of Michigan School of Medicine (C.S. Mott Children's Hospital) and a clinical fellow at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine (Children's Hospital of Los Angeles). His awards include the 2006 Award for Commitment to Science and Medicine for distinguished physicians and scientists from St. Louis University School of Medicine. He is board certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery.
Dr. Polimenakos specializes in congenital heart surgery, thoracic transplantation and ventricular assist devices. He has authored or coauthored several original articles, editorials and abstracts, and has presented widely at conferences around the country.
