| | | Anthony Perez-Tamayo, MD | | Anthony Perez-Tamayo, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor and attending surgeon in the Department of Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgery at Rush University Medical Center. Dr. Perez-Tamayo also serves as chairman of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery in the Department of Surgery at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County. He previously served as assistant professor and attending cardiothoracic surgeon at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York.
Dr. Perez-Tamayo received his medical degree from the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Medicine. He also holds a PhD in biomedical engineering from the School of Engineering at Duke University. He completed his residency in general and thoracic surgery at Duke University Medical Center, where he also completed a fellowship in surgical critical care. He later completed a residency in cardiothoracic surgery at Loyola University Medical School. He is board certified in general surgery, critical care, and thoracic and cardiac surgery.
He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of several professional societies, including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the Chicago Cardiothoracic Surgery Society. He has numerous credits as an author or co-author of articles, abstracts and book chapters in his field, and has presented his work at many national meetings.
