Edgar G. Chedrawy, MD, is an attending cardiothoracic surgeon at Rush University Medical Center. In addition to his appointment on the medical staff at Rush, he is an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Chedrawy received his MD degree from Dalhousie Medical School in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Following his medical training, he earned a Master's of Science degree in experimental surgery at McGill University in Montreal. He completed a residency in cardiac surgery at McGill University Health Center in Montreal, and a fellowship in cardiopulmonary transplantation/mechanical circulatory support at Stanford University Medical Center.
In addition to his positions at Rush and the University of Illinois, Dr. Chedrawy has been on the medical staff at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago, Evanston Northwestern Healthcare in Evanston, Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago and Stanford University Medical Center in Stanford, California.
Dr. Chedrawy's honors and awards include the Alley-Sheridan Scholarship of the Thoracic Surgery Foundation for Research and Education and the Dr. Wilfred Bigelow Prize from the University of Toronto. He was named a finalist in the C. Walton Lillehei Resident Research Forum at the annual meeting of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery in 2001.
Dr. Chedrawy has authored or coauthored several original articles, editorials and abstracts, and has presented widely at conferences around the country.
